Life is meant to be lived. To constantly drain your resources without reciprocation activates survival mode. Once survival mode is turned on, it can easily become a stronghold, making it difficult to break free.

Strongholds are rooted in dysfunction and can easily become accepted as a way of life. One such behavior is giving from an empty place. Society has praised this dysfunction as heroic for generations. Under the guise of selflessness, we have adopted behaviors that deplete our inner resources without proper reciprocation.

Consider the farmer, who uses his resources to plant seeds and till the soil in preparation for the harvest. For the purpose of this example, let’s assume at harvest time, the farmer gives away the produce for free. As a result, there is no return on investment or reciprocation for the labor and expenses. Meanwhile, the farmer is expected to prepare for the next season without provision. Impossible, right? Sure, the farmer can wish for a miracle or some generous donation. But why not implement practical solutions to be better positioned for success?
